Mia joined Wishart Law Firm LLP as an Associate Lawyer in 2017 and practices mainly in the area of municipal law where she provides advice on all matters relating to municipal law to municipalities across Ontario. Mia also advises municipalities on by-law enforcement, municipal prosecutions, tax sales and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation.
She has prosecuted for a number of municipalities across Ontario for offences under the Highway Traffic Act, Building Code Act, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, and Trespass to Property Act.
Mia has a strong commitment to her clients, unique perspective and strategic approach to matters, and a genuine focus on achieving the best outcome for clients.
She has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, and a number of tribunals.
She attended Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School where she earned her Juris Doctor in 2015. Mia completed her undergraduate degree at Algoma University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Sociology. She also has her Certificate in Human Resource Practices from Sault College.
While in law school, Mia received the Certificate of Merit for the highest grade in Law Office Management, a Certificate of Training in facilitative mediation, and was on the Dean’s List. Mia also completed a Judicial Externship with the Honourable Rosemarie E. Aquilina of the 30th Circuit Court. She belonged to the Italian-American Law Society, Amnesty International, and the Canadian Law Student Association while in law school.
In her spare time you can find Mia travelling with her husband and spending time with family and friends. Mia also takes pride and enjoys giving back to her community by serving as a Director with the Sault Area Hospital Board of Directors and as the Treasurer for the Algoma District Law Association.
